King Falcons Hector Calma of Adamson University was part of last Adamson Championship in 1977. The second youngest among six girls and two boys of Benjamin Calma, retired LTC registrar and Bernardina Mallari (his only brother, Ramon, was his boyhood idol then and this was the same player who had a stint with the National squad in the mid 70's), Hector also played for a number of commercial teams as an amateur including stints with Solid Mills, Paul Jordan, Masagana 99, and ESQ. He rose to national prominence, though, when he quarterbacked the 1982 RP Youth team to the Asian Youth championship held here in Manila and for him, their championship match against China remains as his most memorable game. From thereon, he was on the senior team that won the 1983 and 1985 South East Asian Games basketball championship, also member of the 1985 Jones Cup champion team and the team that played in the world basketball championship in Gerona, Spain. Among his coaches, he points to Ron Jacobs as the one who really developed his skills. "Sa kanya talaga ako nadevelop. As for coach Norman Black, I've had no problems with him because his coaching style is similar to Jacobs and what is good about American coaches is that they really prepare for games, may game plan for each game we play," Hec answered. He spearheaded San Miguel Grandslam titles in PBA season 1989. Outside the court, Hector has just become a business entrepreneur
