Note : OKAY, okay. So the historic 75th season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the country's oldest collegiate league, paid tribute to its great products from the past such as Caloy Loyzaga, Alvin Patrimonio and Vergel Meneses. But just as exciting are its present crop of teams, athletes and plans for the future. Foremost of the innovations is the NCAA's plan to expand its horizons as it is launching the first-ever NCAA South tournament late this this year composed of the sister schools of the six regular NCAA members namely: College of St. Benilde (Cavite), Letran College (Calamba), Philippine Christian University (Cavite), San Sebastian College (Cavite), University of Perpetual Help (Laguna) and St. Benedict (Alabang). On the athletic front, the most anticipated concem is Letran's is ability to become the league's first-ever back-to-back overall champion in the seniors and juniors divisions vis-a-vis the rest of the teams' bid of stopping the Knights from doing so. Letran made the record books last season by becoming the first NCAA team to be crowned overall champion in both the juniors and seniors divisions. Letran topped four of the eight seniors events and won two juniors events while placing prominently in the rest of the juniors competitions. The Knights won the seniors championships in basketball, men's volleyball, women's volleyball and track & field and the juniors championships in law tennis and table tennis. In the centerpiece event of basketball, it looks like the Arriba cagers are, indeed, the pre-tournament faves.
