Remembering NCC Days - Avelino 'Samboy' Lim

if he were a rookie, it's a cinch he'd win the Rookie of the Year plum in a runaway fashion.
But unfortunately, he's not a rookie. Well, he's a rookie in the Northern Consolidated squad, 
guest amateur quintet in the PBA for two years now. And since he's an amateur, 
he's not eligible for any PBA major awards. Avelino "Samboy' Lim, Jr., Mr Dazzle to his 
legion of fans, has invaded the PBA and is continuously bewildering pro basketball rooters.
Over at the Northern Consolidated camp, he has dislodged several stars from their starting position. 
Samboy Lim, who had joined NCC only this year, is always among the first five players off the bench. 
And that's more than just sheer confidence and trust on the part of NCC coach Ron Jacobs.
Lim, recipient of the Best Amateur cager award of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) 
late last year, has never played for a commercial team. But that's not a negative factor working against him.
"I may not have played for any commercial team but seeing action for the national squad is 
more than enough," said the 23-year old Lim. Fact is, Lim is the only purely collegiate player in the NCC roster. 
But despite this, the high-leaping Samboy towers way, way over his peers. A true fighter at heart, 
he engages PBA stars in one-on-one confrontations and oftentimes comes up a winner. Lim is undoubtedly 
the finest amateur cager in the land today, succeeding teammate Hector Calma.
