Tough and rugged like the Western movie hero he was named after, Django Rivera was recruited as a free agent by Pepsi. He has actually sought to turn pro back in 1992 but found no takers. On the same year, he almost made it to the Ginebra roster but proved loyal to his amateur team, Triple V, which was then in the finals. Rivera suffered a knee injury during the All-Filipino and was unable to go full throttle in his rookie year. But once back in harness, he showed intensity in both ends of the court. Rivera, who donned the San Sebastian College jersey in the NCAA, normed 5.5 points in 24 games. But he is best remembered for roughing up several imports he was assigned to guard.
