Ronnie Bughao is vital to the Tamaraws. He is an ideal playmaker with a presence of mind to scan the court and seize the opportunity to make a play and score a shot. He is no fancy dribbler but he can direct the ball to extricate himself from a delicate situation. He is also a mean sniper from the arch. Ronnie Bughao is no ordinary small guy on the court. He augments the few inches he missed with reckless agility and abrasive toughness. With his height and speed, one imagines a jetfueled machine in his team's drive to win. Born October 8 in Cebu City, parents Jesus Bughao and Esther Illustrisimo brought up the young Ronnie into a Godfearing environment. His basketball skills were first noticed while studying at the Zapatira Elementary School but volleyball was then his interest. The big, fateful switch came during his Abellana National High School days. "Nuon ako nagsimulang sumali sa mga intramurals in school at sa barangay level. Naiba ang focus ko pagdating ng high school because I saw my elder brother playing basketball and enjoying himself. Sa harap kasi ng bahay namin nagpatayo ng basketball court. Naisip ko tuloy na pag-aralan ko rin ang paglalaro nito." Ronnie Bughao's skills were further sharpened when he moved from the University of Vizayas to FEU. His elder brother Derreck recommended him to FEU assistant coach Robert Flores. Head Coach Coy Banal saw the great potentials of the young Bughao in the try-outs and immediately took him in. "Very persistent si Coach Coy sa pagturo sa akin ng tamang paglalaro at tanggalin ko 'yung some bad habits that I have picked up along the way. I owe a lot to Coach Coy who keeps on bugging me to form new habits and style in my play." The FEU Tamaraws, with the vastlyimproved Ronnie Bughao, are now the leading contenders in the on-going MICABA championship. "Sana nga tuloy-tuloy swertehin ang team namin para naman mabigyan namin ng magandang kapalit lahat ng paghihirap ni Coach Coy sa pagtuturo sa amin."
