ADAMSON University regained its winning form by trampling University of the East, 25-20, 25-15, 25-12, in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday.
The Lady Falcons improved to 2-1, tying University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons for second in the eight-team standings.
It was a needed bounce back win for Adamson, which suffered a straight-set defeat to De La Salle last Saturday.
“I always remind them na we always start sa training natin kung ano yung mga lapses natin doon natin trabahuhin para madali na lang sa game kung paano yung application and I encourage them always to set their mind every game gabi pa lang kung ano yung gagawin nila sa kinabukasang game,” said Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude.
Shaina Nitura, Frances Mordi, Mayang Nuique, and Jen Villegas powered Adamson to a 19-9 explosive start in the second frame to move on the verge of a sweep.
Then the Lady Falcons stepped on the gas even more to shatter any shot of a comeback from the Lady Warriors, opening up a 15-4 burst in the third on the way to the straight-sets domination in one hour and 18 minutes..
“Kailangan naming madaanan yung mga challenges na ganon kasi hindi kami magli-learn kung hinid namin madadaanan yung mga ganon. If hindi namin makikilala si talo, paano namin makikilala si panalo” said the rookie Nitura, who delivered 18 points on 16 attacks, a block, and an ace to go with 11 digs as they bounced back after losing in three sets to De La Salle University last time out.
Nigerian wing hitter Mordi added 11 points while Nuique, who was converted to the wing from middle blocker, contributed nine points.
The Lady Falcons took control of all scoring departments, winning the spiking (41-27), blocking (9-5), and service (5-1) departments while also having lesser errors compared to the Lady Warriors, 14-20.
Up next for Adamson is last year’s silver medalist University of Santo Tomas on Saturday, 2 p.m., at the same Pasay venue.
The duo of Van Bangayan and Khy Cepada continued to carry the offense with 11 and 10 points, respectively, but the Lady Warriors remained winless in three outings.
Meanwhile, libero Angelica Reyes excelled defensively with 13 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions.
UE will also resume play on Saturday against reigning champion National University at 4 p.m.
