1. Birthday Greetings to Marty Tierra ( Jan 13 ) JRC Varsity player

Marty Tierra
Born Jan. 13, 1955. 5-11, 165 lbs. Guard . Coming from a basketball family has instilled a strong sense of competition in this hard-working sentinel of the Polyesters. A former Heavy Bomber, Marty put an impressive rookie season as a team man who took care of the support tasks such as ball distribution, defense and rebounds although he has a reliable jumper whenever a scoring opportunity arises. As a JRC Light and Heavy ber, he proved to be the wily operator. While then-teammate Lito Ladores scintillated in high scoring, Tierra was respected for his cunning and all-court value. In his debut in the MICAA however, he was adjudged topscorer. Unfortunately after a prodigious start, Tierra found himself a surprised reliever, and later on, a more surprised benchwarmer. This was the time when SMC was suffering from poor showing either because it had acquired a mediocre coach or it had put an overdose of importance to its star players, relegating the rest to the background. The curly-topped 5-10 bundle of muscle and brain, who sports jersey number seven, is a light-footed, deceiving performer. He has a pair of golden hands which can grow hot from medium range and afar. His penetration is neither powerful nor flashy. He has moves which are similar to Larry Mumar's in that he pierces tigerish stance with neat, cool and calculating moves. "He uses his head more than his body," a Rizal Memorial habitue observed.Tierra, only 22, is married to the former Joy Gonzales. The couple with their two kids Jomar and Marlon stay in Mandaluyong. "My dribbling took a halt last year when I was sparingly used in the games. And there were good players in the team," he said. Aside from the rigorous demands of basketball, Tierra finds time to attend office at the Public and Personnel Services department of San Miguel.
