JIMBO AQUINO
SAN SEBASTIAN COLLEGE
BORN OCT. 13, 1985 BAMBAN, TARLAC 6-0 Æ, FORWARD
Aquino, as expected, went high (eighth overall) in the draft with a high-profile amateur career marked by his winning the 2009 NCAA Finals MVP and 2009 UAAP-NCAA All-Star MVP awards. But finding himself on a team teeming with talents in the wings, the former San Sebastian hotshot had to toe the line. He was handicapped by his slim physique. Added poundage could help him improve. His was a case of not a few, a heralded player in the amateurs finding it hard to gain identity of belonging in the pros. Not of help was Aquino's lean frame that proved to be a handicap in the physicality of the PBA play. Ditched by Ginebra after the Commissioner's Cup, the former San Sebastian top gun got some relief, playing an average of 8.1 minutes in 13 games as among Ronald Tubid's subs at Barako.
