1. Birthday Greetings to Rey Evangelista ( Dec 30 )

Rey Evangelista
One says that athlates can hardly excel in the academic world, then what's guy like Rey Evangelista doing over the the UST Glowing Goldies camp? Rey is a masteral student at UST having completed a course in Agribusiness at the Visayan State College of Agriculture "Gusto ko lang talagang makapaglaro dito sa Maynila. That's why I tried out for UST," said the 6-3 Evangelista who hails from Ormoc City Layte. Rey was born December 28, 1971 and is the fifth of six children (Pamela, May, Jude, Christine, Rey and Agnes) of Climaco Evanglista and Carmela Fran. He is a cousin of UST big boy Raymond Fran. His sisters Christine and Agnes are members of the UST volleyball team. Rey started out as a volleyball player himself during his high School days at the St. Peter's College. Later, he shifted to basketball because people noticed he is a high leaper and is also good at positional plays. He played three years for the VSCA team under Dr. Othello Capuno. The team was crowned champion of the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association Region 8 meet. Rey claims that despite having been under UST coach Aric del Rosario for such a short period, he has already learned a lot of things. However, Rey claims he still has a lot of aspects to improves on. "Okay na siguro ang rebounding skills ko. Pero kailangang ma-impove ko ang perimeter shooting so that I can be a threat to the opponents. Walang variety of shots. " Rey idolizes NBA players David Robinson of San Antonio Spurs and Michael Jordan of Chicago along with San Miguel Beer's Ramon Fernandez. UST is the only team now capable of foiling a predicted La Salle-FEU champi onship encounter. Regarding the Goldie's chances of making the finals, Rey said, "We have to win all remaining three games.
