Mollet started to the game in Pio del Pilar High School in Makati. At an early age, he was already a byword in neighborhood basketball in Makati as an aggressive dribbler of Bo. Pinagkaisahan. He played for two years as a Knight of Letran to the NCAA under Coach Gabby Fajardo. He was a member of the 1970 NCAA champion team skippered by Dave Regullano, now a teammate at Tru-Orange. The following year, he made the NCAA selection which toured the key cities of Asia. Among those in the team and who are now PBA stars are Rino Salazar, Benjie Cleofas, Atoy Co, Baby Boy Morales, Ricky Pineda and Danny de Guzman.
