If there's a UAAP Comeback Player of the Year award, it should go to Mariano. After missing all of last year with a fractured right ankle, the 19-year-old rebounded with the best performance of his career. Mariano carried a solid pre-season campaign into the UAAP season where he became a marquee name against Ateneo. In that first round game, he lifted the Tigers back from a 19-point deficit by nailing 11 of his 21 points in the third period for a stirring 71-70 win. He later hit a game-winning basket in overtime against National University in the second round and has been a reliable one-on-one threat, a talent that UST hasn't been seen in since Dylan Ababou left.
