THE beefy slotman spent an uneventful rookie season with San Miguel in 1997, moved to the MBA for a while then drifted back to the Beermen towards the end of the campaign. Padilla found an open spot waiting for him at San Miguel and dressed for a number of games. But he got to play in only one of them. Still, the 6-5 cager kept his place in the team going into the 1999 wars. He's no bad boy, like his showbiz namesake, but he's a big, tough guy who can man the slot well. He isn't a scoring threat, but can put in the points just the same, as well as haul down the rebounds. He's the only true center on the Beermen's lineup, so coach Ron Jacobs expects a lot from this SEA Games veteran.
