Tanduay spotted him from the La Carlota Sugar Central Mills team of the Elizaldes and thought he was sound enough to play in the PBA. Played briefly for PSBA before joining the Esquires in 1979. A hard worker, a crack guard, with a great touch, says team manager Bobby Littaua. However, since the Esquires are not wanting in guards, Gideon has to struggle to become premier backcourtman.
