Birthday Greeting to Sir Dennis Roldan ( Dec 08 )

Mitchel Gumabao, 22, first played bas-ketball for the FEU juniors under coach Arturo Valenzona. After a year, he transferred to Trinity College and played for the Colts under Coach Leyson. Gumabao, was also one of 24 candidates to the RP Youth squad in 1978. Before he concentrated on movie-making, reports have it that he practiced with the San Miguel Braves in the MI CAA. He however failed to play for SMC. And then came 'Kambal sa Uma'. This photoplay paired him off with Rio Locsin. and it launched his movie career. Actually, his shift from dribbling to histrionics was influenced by director Joey Gosiengfiao who happens to be his neighbor. Dennis did several notable photoplays including the Celso Ad. Castillo-directed Uhaw Na Dagat and the Laurice Guillenmegged Salome. But Roldan is most remembered in the movie 'Bakit Bughaw Ang Langit' directed by Mario 'O Hara. In this film, he teamed up with superstar Nora Aunor. Roldan portrayed the role of a basketball player who suffered a head injury. Many believe that Roldan gave justice to his role and that he should have merited a citation from film critics and at the most win a FAMAS statuette for Best Actor. Dennis never got due recognition. Last year, Dennis went through some sort of a lull in his movie career. And then came 'Exploitation, the movie that launched Kristine Garcia to Stardom. 'Exploitation', was released early this year. Dennis is also included in the cast of Kirot, which introduces the newest sex symbol Stella Strada. Roldan claims that there are many offers coming his way but he hasn't decided on which one to accept. Just when Dennis Roldan's movie career was on the upswing, he decided to play in the pro league.
