Happy Birthday, Celedon “Don” Camaso ( Mar 16 )

1.

Celedon Camaso, Born March 16, 1973, Calookan City. 6-6, forward. Two seasons in the PBA were enough for Don to make a point: that this MBA star is good enough to shine in any league. A standout with the Manila Metrostars and the national team, the lean-framed 6-4 forward impressed a lot of people in the pro league with his quickness, dexterity, ability to finish the break and impres sive range all rare for a player his size. Camaso logged averages of 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 40 games as a key player in coach Louie Alas's rotation and, frankly, one of the few bright spots for the team all season. But perhaps the biggest gauge of the young man's talent was the fact that he was picked by Ron Jacobs for his pool of players for the RP team to this September's Asian Games.  THERE was never a question about Don's talent. The guy has lots of it, being a 6-5 forward who has the quickness, the outside touch and the tools to play small forward, even off-guard. But in 1999, after two impressive seasons with the Manila Metrostars in the MBA, the former national player decided to make the jump to the PBA, perhaps to see how all that talent would fare against bigger and better opposition.
