EDMUND REYES
Talk about players from Mindoro and the first name that comes to mind is that of Nelson Asaytono, the bull-strong power forward which Swift acquired from Purefoods late last year. But there's another budding power forward from that part of the country by the name of Edmund Reyes, a native of Victoria, Mindoro. Mon was born on August 24, 1971 and is the fourth of seven children (Eddie, Jr., Edwin Ederlyn, Mon, Edilbert, Edelmira and Ednalyn) of farmer Eduardo Reyes and Presentation Carreon, a private school teacher. He actually started out as a volleyball player when he was a sixth grader but shifted to basketball while studying at the Good Shepher Academy high. On his own, the 6-2, Reyes went to Manila and enrolled at the University of Santo Tomas where he is currently tak ing up Business Administration. During an intramural match, he was spotted by Glowing Goldies coach Aric del Rosario who told him to tryout for the senior team. He did so and was taken in. He has spent three yeas with the Goldies sitting out his sophomore year because of academic problems. Last year, he came back with a bang and helped Dennis Espino and current Burger Machine teammate Rey Evangelista man the splot for the Goldies who finished a fighting third. At 185 lbs., he says he is too light and he wants to add more pounds to his frame which others describe as 'already siksik. "Kailangan kasi sa banggaan ang malaking katawan," says Mon, another Alvin Patrimonio fan. This year, Burger Machine saw a transition of coaches from Eddie Reyes to Chot Reyes. Management was not happy with the perforemance of Eddie who only managed to lead the team to a win in seven games. In his first stint as PBL coach, Chot led the Food Busters to an 81-64 win over New Pop Cola and from the looks of it, things would turn rosy for them in the future. "Hindi pa naman namin gaanong nakikita ang difference sa kanilang dalawa. Halos pareho ang coaching style nila. Pero mas maingay nga lang si Chot dahil nagsasalita siya habang naglalaro kami. Tingin ko, okay naman siya," said Mon.
