Remembering NCC Days - Alfredo Jarencio
1. Remembering NCC Days - Alfredo Jarencio
Life Goes on for Pido Jarencio
Alfredo (Pido) Jarencio made his Philip- pine Basketball Association (PBA) debut
with the San Miguel Corp. franchise in the third conference two seasons back.
Despite his glowing credentials as a former Univeristy of Santo Tomas standout,
Pido failed to create an immediate impact in the pro league.Jarencio played behind
Hector Calma and Franz Pumaren in the San Miguel backcourt totem pole. There was no
question Pido had the stuff to make it big in the PBA. The only problem was he
didn't get the minutes to show what he could do. It must have been exasperating
for Jarencio to sit on the bench without being able to consistently contribute
to the San Miguel cause. The situation seemed almost hopeless as Jarencio managed
to see action in only four games in his first PBA conference, averaging 3.5 points.
Standing only 5-9 didn't help Pido any either. Sure, he had speed and shooting power.
But let's face it, basketball is dominated by the giants underneath the boards and
Jarencio didn't fit in the mold of a power player. Last campaign, Jarencio hit at a
5.5 clip with a single-game high of 23. San Miguel played a total of 66 games
throughout the season.
