Note : "There are of course the skeptics, who point out that contrary to the vision of these men, the Olympics had in fact encouraged and fostered conflict among men and na- tions. They point out to the killing of Israeli athletes in the Munich Olympics of 1972. They also call our attention to the several boycotts of Olympic Games for political reasons. But the Olympics Games have endured and will continue to endure as long as we long and fight for the cause of peace. And as long as men continue to hold on to their idealism. "It is not difficult to notice a parallelism between the Olympics and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. (UAAP). Both were founded on the belief that sports is a medium for youth devel- opment, and an instrument to unite people and institutions." These were the opening lines of a four- page speech read by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Philip Ella Juico during the opening rites of the 58th edition of the UAAP at the Araneta Coliseum last Saturday. And Juico was right in comparing the Olympic body with the UAAP in terms of diversity of composition but oneness in objective.
