Note : THE University Athletic Association of the Philippines kicked off to an auspicious start last July 13, with host school De La Salle University unveiling the 59th rah-rah-rah season with an impressive, Mind-bending "palabas" at the Araneta Coliseum. DLSU chose to do it with a high-tech and futuristic ambience with a presentation complete with lasers, pyrotechnics and cyber effects to dramatize this year's theme- "The New Generation of Sports Excellence." Curiously enough, the traditional parade of athletes was reformatted so that only the school mascots, the muses, the team captains and the school emblems took the long walk around the hardcourt amid the applause and cheers of the crowd estimated at 25,000. But what a cavalcade it was. The mascots, prepared by the member schools themselves, were a big hit and stole the early afternoon away. For UE, it was a Warrior complete with tribal threads and swags. For UST, FEU and Adamson, it was a Golden Tiger, a Tamaraw and a Falcon, respectively. NU opted to bring in a living, breathing, drooling Bulldog but Ateneo had no mascot because their eagle- a vet- eran of UAAP ceremonies past -had reportedly gone across the creek so to speak, as an endangered specie.
Champion : University of Sto Tomas 17th titles
