Pinoy Coach Legend Tribute - Nilo Verona
1.

Ironically, while Nilo Verona (then named Claustro, a monicker he got while studying at the Ateneo) made a name as a member of the 1950 NCAA champion team of Letran (together with Lauro Mumar, Herminio Astorga, Ricardo Panis, Chemari Iglesias, Cesar Sequera, Cui, et al) he never finished a course at Muralla. It was several years later, after his active playing years that he was able to complete his. BS Commerce course at the University of San Carlos in Cebu. 'I was assistant manager of the Yellow Taxi then, and I made use of my spare time properly by going back to school.' Actually, Nilo played with the Muralla hoopsters for three years (1950-53). Earlier he joined the Terminal team in the MICAA where he made it to the MICAA Selection on his first year. He was not able to join the team though when it played abroad. What does Nilo think of the pro league? Does it affect amateur caging? 'Only to the extent that the PBA will not get our amateur stars' he said, admitting that we will not be able to form a strong national team.
